Portrait Commissions
Thank you for your interest in commissioning me to take your portraits! It means so much. Portraiture was my first love in the world of photography - I love the way it invites me to slow down, be present, and get to know people. Whether you are celebrating an engagement, a new home, an anniversary, or just want to document this current season, I would be delighted to photograph you.
I approach portrait sessions a bit unconventionally. Instead of meeting and diving right into posing and picture taking, I prefer to begin our time together by grabbing coffee, drinks or a meal. I’ll bring over some takeout or we can meet at a favorite spot of yours - it’s up to you. This allows us to get to know each other a bit and begin building connection and trust before I get out my camera. Afterward we’ll take a walk around your home, neighborhood, or a nearby park - just continuing our conversation and taking pictures along the way. Laid-back, present, lived-in.
I strive to make photographs that resonate with who you are in this specific place and time. I work best with people & couples who are willing to do a trust fall and invite me into their lives to document them in this way, to make portraits that show them something true about themselves and what this season means to them.

I may offer gentle direction or guidance from time to time, but my primary goal is to photograph you as you are. If you’re looking for a photographer with a more polished, formally posed style, I am likely not the best fit for you. I am more of a quiet, observational type— my goal is to blend in to the background and let you be in the moment however you are experiencing it, and then to create art from that.

This is a great question! There are a lot of differences, both philosophically and technically. One of the most visible is that film color ranges and tonal depths remain unparalleled in quality, even with the modern digital technology we have today. I shoot with 35mm, 120 (aka medium format) and vintage Polaroid film. Each of these mediums has a different set of strengths and characteristics. Feel free to ask me more about this so we can have a more in-depth conversation about it!

Sessions typically take place in your home or at a favorite park/neighborhood spot, although I am always open to other ideas like a photo studio or museum. As far as session times go, it depends – though generally mornings and evenings around sunrise/sunset.
-
Typically about 3-4 weeks. This ensures that I can give myself the time + space I need to make my best work with diligence and care. It also factors in the time it takes to send film to the lab for development, retrieve the negatives, and then scan & convert the images. Occasionally this process takes a bit longer than usual if the mail and/or lab (and/or myself!) is backed up - and in that case, I’ll be in touch with you and do my best to give you an updated turnaround timeframe.
-
No worries, I know things happen! The sooner you let me know, the better - that way we can work on rescheduling your session for a new date. I am not able to offer refunds for no-shows & cancellations made less than 24 hours before your session.
