ARTIST’S STATEMENT

As a photographer, much of what I believe about people and how I see the world becomes incarnate in the photographs I make. I believe that people are endlessly interesting and that the world is surprising and strange and deeply good.

It is not lost on me that photographs are one of the most significant artifacts we have left of days, moments and people after they are gone. With this in mind I strive to make photographs that feel true, not just photographs that are honest. Testaments to a life and a world that I love; to people and what matters most to them. Always keeping an eye out for the unexpected, for magic and for the imperfect. Interludes and crescendos. The essence of this moment.

My process is rooted in analog photography because of film’s tendency to encourage slower, more attentive looking. I believe that the best photographs are made when I tap into the love and care I have for each of my subjects, and what this moment signifies to them. Mary Oliver said it best: to pay attention— this is our endless and proper work.

Gallery includes a built-in print shop with the option to purchase archival quality fine art prints, frames, photobooks & more.

How to Book

Send me an email letting me know what kind of session/add-ons you are interested in, as well as any info about your availability that might be helpful to set a date.

Once we confirm a date, a 25% deposit officially books your session! The remaining balance is due by the day of your session.

Sessions typically take place in your home or at a favorite park/neighborhood spot, although I am always open to suggestions!

faqs

  • A 25% nonrefundable deposit is due to officially book your session. This deposit goes toward your total session balance, which is due by the date of your session. Payment can be made via credit/debit, Venmo, Zelle, or cash.

  • Yes! Payment plans are available and can be customized to suit what works best for you, whether you would like to pay in one lump sum or a handful of smaller installments (no interest or added fees ever btw).

  • I may offer gentle direction or guidance from time to time, but my primary goal is to photograph you as you are. If you’re looking for a photographer with a more polished, formally posed style, I am likely not the best fit for you. I am more of a quiet, observational type— my goal is to blend in to the background and let you be in the moment however you are experiencing it, and then to create art from that.

  • This is a great question! There are a lot of differences, both philosophically and technically. One of the most visible is that film color ranges and tonal depths remain unparalleled in quality, even with the modern digital technology we have today. I shoot with 35mm, 120 (aka medium format) and vintage Polaroid film. Each of these mediums has a different set of strengths and characteristics. Feel free to ask me more about this so we can have a more in-depth conversation about it!

  • Sessions typically take place in your home or at a favorite park/neighborhood spot, although I am always open to other ideas like a photo studio or museum. As far as session times go, it depends – though generally mornings and evenings around sunrise/sunset.

  • Typically about 3-4 weeks. This ensures that I can give myself the time + space I need to make my best work with diligence and care. It also factors in the time it takes to send film to the lab for development, retrieve the negatives, and then scan & convert the images. Occasionally this process takes a bit longer than usual if the mail and/or lab (and/or myself!) is backed up - and in that case, I’ll be in touch with you and do my best to give you an updated turnaround timeframe.

  • No worries, I know things happen! The sooner you let me know, the better - that way we can work on rescheduling your session for a new date. I am not able to offer refunds for no-shows & cancellations made less than 24 hours before your session.
